Common Questions

1. How does the U-Pull-It process work for customers?
At Pickers Self Service Auto Parts, customers begin by searching inventory online or via in-store kiosks to locate vehicles matching their part needs. Inventories are updated daily, often categorized by recency (e.g., “New On Yard” lists vehicles added within 24–48 hours). Visitors must bring their own tools (wrenches, jacks, pry bars) to extract desired parts physically. After extracting, parts are taken to checkout counters for pricing and payment, with pricing predetermined per part type. Customers handle all labor, including disassembly and transportation of parts to their vehicle.

2. Do I need to call ahead to confirm part availability?
No. Pickers explicitly states they cannot take phone or email inquiries to confirm part availability. Staff are not tasked with searching inventory, and policies prioritize in-person visits to check vehicles. If a specific vehicle isn’t present, tools like Parts Interchange databases or Notify Me systems (which alert customers when target vehicles arrive) can help expand options.

3. What tools am I required to bring?
Customers must supply all tools for part extraction, including wrenches, jacks, stands, screwdriver sets, and bolt cutters. No power tools or specialized machinery are provided, emphasizing the DIY nature of the service. A list of permitted tools is often posted online or at entrances. For specialized jobs, consider bringing tools specific to the part you’re after, such as side mirror removal tools if you’re replacing mirrors.

4. What happens if I can’t find the part I need?
Pickers typically offers alternatives such as cross-referencing compatible vehicles via Parts Interchange (searching by part number, vehicle make/model, or OEM code). They also provide Notify Mesystems to alert customers when their target vehicle arrives. Disputes over part availability are resolved at checkout.

5. Can I return parts I remove but no longer need?
Unwanted parts must be returned to the original vehicle or designated return areas. Leaving parts scattered or in other vehicles violates yard policies, which prioritize organization and safety. Staff may assist with proper disposal if unsure.

6. Are there age restrictions or entry fees?
Pickers imposes a minimum age (18 years for unaccompanied entry, 15+ with adult supervision) but does not charge an entry fee. This makes it more accessible than some yards that charge $5–10 for admission.

7. How are parts priced, and what payment methods are accepted?
Pricing is pre-determined based on part type (e.g., engines, doors, wheels) and posted at checkout counters. Customers pay only after confirming and extracting their parts. Payment methods typically include cash and credit/debit cards. If you’re looking for specific high-value items like used catalytic converters, prices will vary based on vehicle make and model.

Ive had both good and bad experiences at this place. My most recent visits have been really great. The only place anywhere near by that had a motor to fit my truck, and at a really good price. Although, a few months back during one of there 50% off sales I ended up giving $31 for a wheel and tire, even with the 50% off. A week later I I stopped at the U-Auto-pull-It on the other side of town and got another wheel and tire for $23 at full price. Still don't understand how that worked. But over all it is a great place with plenty of inventory to look at. And if no one else has the part you need, odds are they will.
