Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hours for SA Recycling?

The yard is open Monday through Friday from 12:00 AM to 11:45 AM. It’s closed on weekends. While the hours suggest 24-hour access, staff may not always be available. Call ahead if you’re unsure.

Does SA Recycling buy junk cars?

SA Recycling is mainly a salvage and recycling yard, not a junk car buyer. For selling an old vehicle, try local cash-for-cars services that offer free towing and instant cash.

What kind of parts can I find at SA Recycling?

The yard carries parts from both domestic and foreign vehicles, though exact models aren’t listed online. You’ll typically find:

  • Engines and transmissions
  • Body panels
  • Suspension components
  • Electrical parts
  • Interior pieces

Availability depends on current inventory. Visit in person to check what’s on hand—the yard doesn’t list parts online.

How does self-service auto salvage work at SA Recycling?

Here’s how it works:

  1. Visit during open hours (Monday-Friday, 12:00 AM-11:45 AM)
  2. Look through the salvaged vehicles for the part you need
  3. Remove the part using your own tools
  4. Pay at the designated area (cash or card, if accepted)
  5. Take the part with you

The yard doesn’t provide tools or help with removal. Bring what you need and be ready to do the work yourself.

Are there any restrictions on what I can remove from vehicles?

SA Recycling sells parts as-is, but common salvage yard rules likely apply:

  • No removing catalytic converters (often restricted by law)
  • Don’t disassemble vehicles beyond what’s needed for the part you paid for
  • Avoid parts marked as sold or reserved
  • Don’t tamper with vehicles not designated for part removal

Ask staff if you’re unsure about any rules. The yard is self-service, so clarity is key.

What should I do if I need help finding a part?

SA Recycling is self-service, so staff may not assist with part searches. Try this:

  • Bring your vehicle’s make, model, and year to match parts correctly
  • Inspect vehicles carefully before buying
  • Check multiple cars if the part isn’t obvious
  • Call ahead (256-398-8900) if you have specific questions

The yard’s website or social media might have updates, but there’s no online inventory.

The place was actually really nice—two friendly women helped me out, and one even brought me a big scoop of ice cream while I was there. Honestly, it made the whole trip way better than I expected. ---

These people are just plain rude and don’t know how to do their jobs. I brought in clean copper, and they had the nerve to tell me it was steel—like I wouldn’t know the difference. Every time I’ve dealt with them, it’s been a headache. ---

Flat tires? Really? And the place is a mess. They shaved the weight off my aluminum, and it wasn’t even clean to begin with. Not worth the hassle. ---

I’ve been going here for years, and I always have a good experience. They give me a fair price on aluminum, copper, and brass, and the staff is actually nice and helpful. I don’t get the complaints about getting ripped off—metal prices change every day, so it’s not like they’re hiding anything. Some people just don’t get it.

I paid for dirty, painted aluminum like it was clean copper—because I had over $50 worth of copper with me—and they gave me a check. Cashing it was a nightmare. Walmart wouldn’t take it, the check-cashing place said it was signed wrong, and Piggly Wiggly stamped it so it could *only* be deposited into their account. Now I’m stuck with a useless $123 check. And after driving 20 miles just to get home, I didn’t even have gas money—my son had to come all the way out to help me. Never going back. ---
