Took in some hardened steel excavator teeth, and the guy there swore up and down they were cast iron. I knew better—this wasn’t my first time dealing with scrap—but when I tried to explain, he acted like I was wasting his time. Got shut down fast, like I was the one who didn’t know what I was talking about. 250 pounds of metal, and I left empty-handed because some guy behind the counter decided he knew more than he actually did. Won’t be back. ---

My grandkids and I used to make a little tradition out of bringing in our crushed aluminum cans, and the place always made it fun. The people there were nice, never in a hurry, and let the kids help unload the cans onto the conveyor belt—something they loved watching. Afterward, we’d head to the office to split whatever we got (usually just a few bucks), and if we were lucky, we’d stick around to watch the claw machine in the scrap yard. Seeing it lift a car frame and drop it onto a pile was like a mini show for them. It was a simple thing, but it taught them that recycling cans could actually put a little money in their pockets. Worth the trip if you’ve got kids who need a break from screens. ---

Hauled in 256 pounds of aluminum mailboxes, stripped the steel locks off every single one, but because there were a few steel screws mixed in—maybe 10 pounds total—I got paid 7 cents a pound instead of the 40 cents I should’ve. That’s a drop from $102 to $18 for the same effort. Might as well have tossed the whole load in the trash and saved the gas money. Not worth the hassle, and I’m done wasting time here. ---

The staff isn’t rude, but their prices are a joke. If you’re bringing in scrap expecting to make decent money, you’re out of luck. I’ve learned to check what things are actually worth first—otherwise, you’re leaving cash on the table. My dad gets paid two or three times what they offer, just a few hours away. Not even worth arguing over. ---

They’re advertising 30 cents a pound for aluminum right now, but it’s worth over 84 cents. The national average is 50 cents, so they’re shortchanging everyone by 12 cents a pound. Just checked tonight—no point in bringing anything here if you want fair pay. Figured I’d let people know before they waste their time.
